From our Past...
Rock Springs Baptist Church was organized by a small group of Christians over 53 years ago on the corner of Simpson and Beaver Roads in Forest Park. The church had two different pastors during its first 10 years.
Then, in June of 1976, the church called Tommy Aman as pastor. As we outgrew our first facilities, we purchased property down the street on the corner of Watts and Beaver Roads. We followed God’s leadership in the building step-by-step as God provided materials and our members provided the labor. What a joy it was to move into the completed building in August of 1983 debt free! To those of us who watched God provide our needs during those three years - sometimes in most unexpected ways - the facility was a monument of God’s faithfulness to us.
During the early 90’s, R.S.B.C. gave birth to Henry Baptist Church in Henry County with a nucleus of our members living in that area. Bro. Tommy pastored both congregations and we continued to support them until their land and original building were paid off and they were able to support a pastor.
God opened the door for us to move to 5900 Reynolds Road in Morrow on October 20, 1996. Our church was greatly blessed at this location. We are grateful for the years we had there, for the things we saw God accomplish, for the lives God changed, and for the precious people added to our fellowship.
Since the Reynolds Road location was no longer a fit for our ministry needs, we sold the facilities to the City of Morrow, and in February of 2019, we began meeting in the chapel of Thomas Scroggs Funeral Home at 6362 South Lee Street in Morrow. We are now awaiting God’s direction for the next leg of our journey.
After 44 years of faithful service, Bro. Tommy was able to retire in June, 2020, he and Mrs. Mary are still faithful members of the church. Bro. Mark McKee transitioned from Associate Pastor to the lead role at that time.
Here at Rock Springs Baptist Church, you will find a warm, friendly group of people. There are no perfect people here. Instead, there are people just like you – people experiencing life’s ups and downs. We are different ages, different nationalities, different colors, but we have a strong common bond in our faith in Jesus Christ.
If you are interested in authentic Christianity without religious pretense and are looking for a church home where you will be accepted as you are, then you may feel at home at Rock Springs Baptist Church. We are a local assembly of believers committed to the Word of God as our guide for life. We are seeking to allow Christ to live out His life through us as we minister to others.
You’re invited to visit us anytime. A warm welcome awaits you at Rock Springs Baptist Church.
